SOS
DAY 15
The plan was Warrnambol to Port Campbell. They followed through, but not the way the boys wanted. The first parts goes smoothly, staying on local farmroads, south of the highway for a long time. Todays route was basically 65 k’s but the side roads made it longer.
Then Lasses bike start to rattle. It seems like the disc break subs and thereby brakes the back tire. The boys loosened the tire and put it back on, several times. Without succeeding. The subs they can live with, but then something worse happened. The derailleur / the chain starts jumping up and down every time Lasse pedals. He gets forward but is goes slowly and is very annoying. It is over 30 k’s left when this happens and they are in the middle of nowhere. The boys just have to continue.
Lasse finds the derailleur that rattles the least, a quite heavy one. Towards Port Campbell it is only getting heavier and heavier, and with 10 k’s left they switch bikes so Anders can take on the rattling bike. At 17:30 they arrive at a primitively but idyllic Caravan Park. It is no sportsstore in sight and the place is much smaller than imagined by looking at the map. The riddle of the afternoon therefore is who can help them? It is impossible to continue cycling on Lasses bike now.
But after all there where bright spots as well today. Anders is a bit ahead when Lasse yells “KOALABEAR” to Anders. Anders turns around and sees a koalabear that crosses the road just a few meters behind him. Anders feverishly looks for the camera but doesn’t find it at takes up his iPhone instead. Lasse films with a go pro attached around his chest, Anders film with his smartphone. It was a very cute koala bear that was running towards Anders, whom where sitting in a squat filming the Koala. “Help it attacks me” Anders was screaming, but stoppes and turned around 4 meters from Anders and runs toward Lasse. I couple of cars is coming and one of them stop as well.
The other bright spot was that it was a beautiful day for cycling, despite a lot of head and side wind. Sun, blue skies and 20 degrees. Especially good it was that they started the Great Ocean Road on this day. Several scenic views where worth stopping for (pictures will come).
If someone know a bicycle mechanic in Port Campbell, then time has come to lift your hands and speak out.
