CORRYONG
Corryong
DAY 28
The caravan park they woke up at in Tallangatta were beautifully placed along Lake Hume. To bad the rest of the caravan park was shit. The toilets and showers are ok, the lawn green it was not much else to brag about. This caravan park only survives due to the amazing location next to a lake. The camp kitchen looked like it was bombed in the early seventies and was still in ruins. They guy who works there was pretty cool, and Anders and Lasse as the only guests at the caravan park could put up the tent wherever they wanted to.
Monday afternoon they cycled in to the town and shopped at the supermarket IGA. Burgers,, hot dogs, ice tea, salad, tomatoes, potato salad, dish washer and dish washing liquids. All parks in Australia had electrical barbecues that can be used by everybody. The boys decided to try these “backpacker bbq’s” as anders calls them. Anders flipped the burgers and hot dogs. The burgers disappeared fairly quick while the hot dogs were saved for breakfast the day after.
From Tallangatta they cycled on a “rail way” for 8 k’s to Old Tallangatta before they turned onto the B400. This road would take them 74 k’s to their next stop, Corryong.
After 22 k’s anders takes a break as it had started to get really steep. One fourth of todays leg was done and it is more hills coming. Lasse meets an englishman that cycles the other direction. They stop and chat. The englishman comes from Darwin on the opposite trip of what Anders and Lasse is doing or have planed. He had used two months from Darwin to here, so he believed the guys could do it. He also mentioned that Lasses tires probably are a bit thin for cycling up north, but they can switch those when they get that far. It is sometimes very good to meet someone that are positive to what the boys are trying to do and have done something similar and that shows it is not impossible.
One of the highest points on todays trip was 650 meters above sea level and after that it went downhill with a very high speed. It was barely any traffic something the boys was depending on to get a good experience, when it the most places the side of the road doesn’t give the boys more than 20-30 cm. The few cars that were there were nice and gave the boys a good margin.
At 3pm they stop a bit before the city centre at a caravan park next to a gas station. 28 dollar for a night in a tent two small cartons with chocolate milk. If Anders and Lasse cycles more than 80 k’s in a day they get chocolate milk as a reward.
Rumour has it that tomorrows leg can be though. The national park Kosciuszko shall be explored and the boys are excited.
