DAY 18

Great ocean road is amazing! Almost at every part you got a view over the blue ocean and today the temperature was perfect for cycling. So far absolutely the best day for cycling, with varied terrain. Lasse performed well today after two very hard-hitting climbing legs the two previous days. “Today I have cycled all hills” Lasse says to Anders while they are eating lunch at Chopsti in Lorne. Lorne is a medium sized town along the Great Ocean Road that can offer almost everything you want for a holiday. A really nice place with sidewalk restaurants where you can eat and drink wine while looking at all the weird two legged creatures that walks by. The wine was absent this lunch, but Anders and Lasse got plenty of food and they were now ready for another 45 k’s.

It continues up and down until the Great Ocean Road “stops”. The traffic increases and it never goes more than 3 seconds before the next car passes. It can be a little exhausting for your ears to constantly have a car passing you. The road shoulder was wide and the felt safe.

With 10 k’s left to Torquay Lasse is all out of powers and calls himself Jørgen Brink (a Swedish cross country skier that were about to win but then suddenly had absolutely zero more to give and Norway with Thomas Alsgaard Won). Lasse takes it very soft into Torquay. They stop at the first and so far the largest caravan park. 44 dollars for setting up a tent in hard dirt close to the main road, that’s a robbery. Anders and Lasse turns quite a few heads when they come with their bikes, red cheeks and sweat. They set up the smallest tent the Australians at this camping have ever seen and takes a shower.

Tomorrow only 93 k’s remain to Melbourne. To those of you who wonders how the boys motivate for new kilometers every day, the secret is having a basic wish about reaching the target the most important. If they are doing 90 k’s then they divide it into 3 parts and suddenly the day is done. New possibilities tomorrow to hurt and tired, but never so much so it ain’t fun anymore.

PS! Anders got close with the first snake on the trip. He cycles and recognizes peace and no danger, then suddenly he sees a brown/black snake in the ditch 60 cm away from him. As reflex Anders pulls both of his legs up and rolls away. Cold chills are sent down has back on an otherwise hot body. Stopping for taking a photo was not an option.
