THE BIKE BUTLER IN BRISBANE
DAY 56
They continue in towards the city center of Brisbane to cycle service place they found online. The Bike Butler is good name of the business but a bit hard to find the location. Lasse calls him and it turns out they have only cycled 200 meters to far. They are greeted outside an anonymous building with a firm handshake and a smile. He has a pen and paper and asks how he can help. Anders needs a new tire, new chain and adjustments of gears and brakes. Lasse has almost identical wishes.
The boys asks if he can have the bike ready the 2nd of January and the man seems happy to have a bit of time. It’s settled, they boys are not cycling a single meter more this year.
Anders asks “do you know a place nearby we can rent a car?”. The man immediately replies “you can rent my car, 50 dollars” and points at the car behind them. “Wow that was lucky” Anders thinks before they ask him if he is serious. He is and hands over the keys and says the car is fully insured. Anders and Lasse has to laugh and can’t still believe it, talk about choosing the right service place for their bikes. It might be in the company name but if you ever need a bike service and a renting car you should go to The Bike Butler in Brisbane.
The head out on the highway from Brisbane towards Stanthorpe in the small and awesome Bike Butler car. The gps tracking is on a leaves much bigger distances between each tracking than usually. The 220 km later they are in Stanthorpe and roll in at the Harslett Farm. Harslett Farm is the farm where both of the boys worked for 7 months in 2011-2012. This is the farm that is the core of their love to Australia. This feels like their second home.
In 2012 their host family was Tim and Tracey and their dog Snoopy. Since that time the family had increased with two new members, they boys Adam and Joel. Anders and Lasse is greeted with a couple of cold beers. After a little while Tim, the two sons, Snoopy and the boys takes a drive around the farm. They drive along all the fields and paddocks with celery, cabbage and other crops. A lot seems like before, just as peaceful and beautiful as the boys remember it. The take a drive down memory lane looking back at a life completely different than the office life in Oslo. 5 years goes fast and they think about all the stuff that has happened since they lived and worked here with dirt on their fingers everyday. They were farmers.
