SUMMER IS COMING
DAY 27
From Beechworth to Tallangatta it is 65 k’s, and they went by nice and quiet. First 30 k’s was mostly downhill and then they had to navigate a bit to find the old railway road. They were only going to ride it for a little while but it turned out that it went all the way to Tallangatta and the boys changed their plan. It’s much safer to cycle 31 k’s on a cycle road instead of a highway. They therefore skipped Granya.
To begin with the railroad was rough and full of sharp rocks. “Our bikes are not made for this” Lasse says. Anders agrees and questions his own judgement about the road decision. It felt like it was just a matter of minutes before any one of them would get a flat tire. Luckily that has not yet happened. After 1 k the cycle road slowly gets better and better and better.
The boys cycle along Lake Hume for a long time. A nice, big lake with great landscape. It feels like the cows here are lucky with their field, compared to other cows in the rest of the world.
A new bridge take them over the lake and saves them for plenty of kilometers. Once again, it’s impressive what Australia and especially Victoria have done for improving the cycling conditions. In Australia they are very glad to inform what each road project costs. So on all new or repaired roads the signs says how much it cost. “$2.5 million”.
The afternoon will be used to cooking food in a park-kitchen, reading, chatting, sunbathing, packing, navigating, weather forecast and research. The temperature is perfect and it is 3-4 days ago they last were freezing in the tent. The summer is coming.
