Day 5
Resting day in Meningie. Anders and Lasse lay in their room the whole day, eating noodles, chips and drinks tea. Both of them are just waiting for Anders’ knee to have a purpose again, so they can move on further down towards the coast with Salt Creek as their next direction. They have realized this expedition is long and therefore the time schedule is on hold until they both are fit for fight and have gotten more experience on the bike.
Meningie is a small place 152 km south-east of Adelaide. This small town is right by Lake Albert, with several parks and a rich bird life. Historically it used to be 5 tribes of aboriginals here, called the Ngarrindjeri people. They made canoes from reed and bark, lived of fishing and made houses that protected them against the could southern wind. The Ngarrindjeri tribes were heavily reduced when the Europeans came. The combination of smallpox and massacres reduced the amount of aboriginals here from 3200 in 1842 to 511 in 1872. The name Meningie is aboriginal and means mud.
Among the first Europeans in this area was captain Charles Stuart. He was given task of solving the mystery about why so many rivers run westwards from the Great Dividing Range (3500 km long mountain range called the Eastern Highlands).
Later these large areas was opened for farmers that just the for sheep and cattle production. Today, aswell, Meningie is know for cater and dairy production and also has a large fishing fleets.
On a day of the boys increase their knowledge and watch cakebake programs.
