DAY 4

The boys started in Wellington. A ferry that is pulled by two large wires, takes the boys to the other side of the river. They were the only passengers, it took only 90 seconds and it was free – unbelievable.

Meningie, a slightly bigger place than Wellington, was the goal of the day – 45 kilometers. After yesterday’s headwind and struggles, where the boys walked more than they cycled on the last 10 k’s, the boys crossed their fingers for better conditions… but it didn’t help!

Anders’ knee is overloaded after being overconfident and giving everything he had on the bike in the Adelaide hills, while Lasse kept his own calm suitable pace. There and then it was okay, but on day three Anders felt the strain, on day four it was game over!

Of course did the headwind announce it announcement on this flat ground stage to
Meningie Anders knee wasn’t working anymore. Pedaling down with the right foot is similar to getting knitting needles through the knee, for every step. Therefore the left leg had to do all the job with the lowest gear as only option. The roads where a thousand times longer than the cabbage fields at Harslett Farm and seemed endless. When the roads are so straight and long that you can not see the end, it becomes hard to cycle with one foot and massive headwind.

Lasse thinks they should stop a pickup and let Anders ride with that to Meningie. “Unacceptable” says Anders and continues cycling, while screaming every now and then for the last 20 k’s.
When it was 5 k’s left Anders steps of his bike and rests on the handlebar. Anders ass hurts so much, that stepping of the bike is process that has to be done very slowly. Anders looks 100 meters ahead and sees Lasse is about to stop as well, but it won’t do. His cycle shoes are stuck in the pedals as normal, but he doesn’t loosen them in time. He tips to the right and hits the ground. As said, Anders was 100 meters away from the epicenter when it happened so the impact he felt of the quake was minimal. Lasse got confirmed that helmets is a good thing.

They missed the chemist / pharmacy with and hour, because everything closes very early on Saturdays.
