BIG BANANA
DAY 47
Anders and Lasse checks out from the motel at 10:00 and cycle up an small hill to eat breakfast at the Big Banana a little bit outside Coffs Harbour. Big Banana is a place to honor the banana industry in the area and here you can buy everything imaginable related to bananas. Breakfast and lunch dishes with banana, banana ice cream, grilled banana, banana burger, banana sandwich and banana pancakes, and of course banana split.
at 11 they roll out on the trafficked A1 that they have cycled on for several days now. The truth is that it isn’t too many other options when cycling on the east coast. A few it is but they try to avoid dirt roads and hilly roads whenever possible. Navigation wise it is very easy to follow the highway.
The weather is grey and dark this Sunday. The temperature is between 20-25 degrees. It feels like a summer on the west coast of Norway, except for the temperature. Today it was plenty of wind from south, which means tailwind. Like never before they flew over the asphalt, and the concrete parts of the highway went even faster. They didn’t stop to have a break before they had done 80 km. Their reward were a burger at McDonalds before the last 30 km to Tyndale. After lunch they cycled more east than north so the wind changed to sidewind and it became even stronger. It was also heavy traffic on that part of the highway at only had one lane in each direction.
5:03 pm they arrive at the caravan park in Tyndale, three minutes after closing time. The couple that runs the place opens it again when they see the two Norwegians that want canned food and a place to set up their tent. In two hours it is getting dark and the tent is up. It is a cold fresh breeze of air and Tyndale has as much to offer as the foreign politics of the environment party in Norway. they will have some beens, do some chatting and reading before the sleeps takes over. Tomorrow it is a new leg til Ballina, at least. 100 km there, a distance they are starting to get very comfortable with as long as the landscape, wind and temperature plays along. 650 km on the last 7 days is more than approved.
