DETOUR
DAY 35
From Goulburn to Moss Vale it is 70 km. But with today’s detour they cycled at least 85 km. The app that is named maps.me is blacklisted and named forever. Anders have used it for many days but that has now comes to an end. It sends you out on routes that haven’t been roads for many years. In other words Anders and Lasse had a long warm up today.
With the cycled road closed they were forced out on the highway. Not exactly the safest option but the my had to. Luckily the road shoulder at most places were 2 meters wide and the cars and trucks that passes adapted to the two cyclists, even though in 130 km per hour it all comes down to margins.
After they ate a lunch at Hungry Jacks (Burger King), it started to rain cats and dogs. This made the highway more demanding since it is more slippery. The water splash in the face when the trucks passes and the fear of a truck loosing control is there. They can first relax when they can turn of the highway with 13 km to Miss Vale remaining. Smaller roads with less traffic is to be preferred.
Tomorrow they head towards the coast and Wollongong. They need to get as far as possible ahead of that place in order to try to reach Sydney on Thursday. There they have allies who waits with a roof over the head and beers. It’s also about time to meet some friends for the other side of the world. Also some well earned resting days as they have cycled non stop since Melbourne, over a 1000 km.
On the picture beneath you can see the detour in detail with a tracking every 10th minute. Beer tracking you can follow the guys almost step by step, just remember to choose awesomestralia under tracking.
Today the boys saw a giant deer, a roadkill. It was huge. The reason they comment it is due to the massive size and first of its kind compared to the 1000 dead kangaroos they have seen.
The boys are sorry that it is no interesting photos but it has rained the whole day. They will improve, promise.
