DAY 20

Sunday evening was quiet and it was time to reflect and summarize some of the stuff that had happened on the trip so far. On cycling days that have a set routine (breakfast, cycling, water and sleeping) it’s not everything they guys have time to convey. Neither of the guys are
Philosophers either, so they will keep their reflections on a very low level. This is despite Anders old quote “if i lived in another century i would be forced to drink a cup of poison”.

– Anders and Lasse speaks between 5-10 sentences to each other on distance of 60-80 k’s.

– Lasse asked on day 10 where the tent poles shall be put after they are dismounted. Anders replied that Lasse is brave who dares to ask that on the tenth day.

– The boys gladly buys fast food but never fries. They never gets eaten, costs 4-5 dollars and are fat.

– Lasse ordered spicy Chinese food in Apollo Bay and didn’t manage to complete his dinner in a dignified manner. It was the strongest thing he had ever eaten. Anders laughed so much the tears ran for 10 minutes, 3 waitresses also laughed, while Lasse struggled.

– Both Anders and Lasse weighed 100 kg’s when they arrived in Australia (or 0,1 ton as they say it in their gang). Lasse weighed 98 with clothes when he had to weigh himself before the Helicopter trip. Yay!

– “Time to get up, Lasse” is the words Lasse likes the least to hear, and he hears them everyday – but they are also the most necessary ones.

– On a “restaurant” in Nelson it was 4 people in the dining area. Two of the were Lasse and Anders, the other twos where an old couple. The darkest moment on the trip was when the old lady burped loudly on purpose for the whole room to hear.

– Anders uses 30 seconds to put on sunscreen. Lasse on the other hand takes plenty of time as he studies his legs from every angel, rubs it in slowly like massage oil, turns his head and watches that it is even from other angels, then adds some more sunscreen. Takes 5 minutes.

– While mounting the bike on day one Anders broke Lasses front wing (the thing that protects water from running with the wheel and up into your face). Anders haven’t heard a single complaint about this after 17 days, 5 of those with rain.

– The question people asked the most before they left was “why are you doing this expedition?”. That will be answered if they succeed.

– Other interesting questions the got was “when does the plane leave”? It left 17:05.

– Lasse got sick on the plane from Singapore and was diagnosed with bronchitis among other stuff. Three weeks into the trip he is still coughing.

– Lasse have stood up pedaling 70 % of the k’s on his bicycle. Anders have been sitting 95 %. Different techniques among the guys.

– A night at a caravan park with tent costs everything from 17-44 dollars. None or very few places you can set up a tent in the nature for free.

– The breakfast is the same everyday; one small can of tuna each accompanied by cookies and a banana.

– In the beginning 10 k’s was far. Now they can cycle 40 k’s before they need a break. The only have really short drinkstops in between.

– Pain in the butt/ass? Yes indeed. It have hurt so much they are struggling to describe it, by they have no other choice than to bite their teeth together and try to find new positions that doesn’t hurt.
It is strong winds today in Melbourne so the boys stays inside in the apartment. The clock is 17:30 and the first beer is opened. The weather forecast says the weather will get worse and it is dark in the horizon above Melbourne city. Melbourne is, according to the internet, one of the largest cities in the world measured in extent. What the night will bring only time will tell, but Lasse got his bike on a much needed service and Andes have done 3 machines of laundry. Resting day 1 out of 2 is soon over.
