DAY 3

After a beer, a shower and a night on a mattress it was time to get back on the bike again. The stage they were supposed to complete the day before must be completed. Approximately 40 kilometers before lunch and 40 after was Friday’s plan.

They start with some very steep uphills which brings back memories from yesterday. But then it turns and slowly it starts going downwards on a dirt road . The dirt road changes with a highway, and it still goes downwards. Traffic passes in 100 k’s per hour. Enormous trucks honk, wave and cheer, and cars stops to ask if everything is alright with the boys. It was a feelgood atmosphere, and random people wanted them to succeed. It was motivat for the boys.

40 k’s done and lunch at an IGA supermarket in Murray Bridge. Anders serves Lasse his life course, 2 liter of chocolate milk. After lunch it is back on the road for the last 40 k’s, but then heaven turns to hell, and tailwind turns to headwind.

Anders feels that something is wrong with his knee, but continue cycling since it is flat landscapes. The toe that Lasse broke 2 weeks before departure hurts a bit. Only 10 k’s left with flat landscape, perfect for cruising forwards with relatively thin tires on their bikes. They make one right turn and then the headwind hits them. None of the guys can assume how many meters per second, but it was remarkable and very demotivating. The bikes are heavy loaded with clothes, tools, tent, electronics and supplies. One extra guest almost sends the boys into the ground. They use the lowest gear and barely gets forward, and that’s on flat ground!

The boys’ rear end is numb after 6 hours on the bike, it hurts. It hurts so much that the tiniest change in surface gives them alibi for crying. Lasses relieves by standing while cycling, Anders can’t do that due to his knee. The wind increases even more and they think the nature is kidding with them. How is it possible to be that much wind on a sunny, warm day?

It might seem surrealist but the boys had get of their bike and walk, on flat ground, it was. O other option. On the last k they spent 1,5 hours! Lasse motivated himself by singing songs, Anders screams and is close to collapsing, he needs a break very 500 meters.

But they made it, they are there, this god forsaken place where it is strange that civilization actually exist. Anders almost pukes, even though he has nothing to puke. They walk to a local restaurant, not expecting the restaurant to have white tablecloths. The waitress asks where the guys are going, and the both answers “Darwin”. “You crazy crazy boys, and suddenly they are the center of attention in the whole restaurant.

On rump steak and a chicken burger later they are back in the tent. The have cable with power into the tent, charges everything and activates Australian sim-cards. They survived day 3 and the boys we pretty happy with that!

PS! The “epic” before shoot has been done, they will be published when the boys reach Darwin.
