MØT DAVE
Meet Dave
DAY 2
Bel Air to Wellington was the target, 110 km. The boys realized soon that was not gonna happen! Some mind-blowing hills put an end to that plan.
Anders is treading upwards, upwards and upwards! Lasse laggards behind, walking the bike, treading, and walking the bike upwards. According to the app it was more than 850 meters that should be ascended. It wasn’t doable, it just wasn’t. After 30-40 kilometers they arrive in Nairne, eat a quite dry chicken with a bunch of gravy and then realize they are so tired it is no chance they can continue today. The local bed&breakfast / hardware store wanted 120 dollars to house the two exhausted guys. That’s a robbery Anders says to Lasse, while Lasse is looking for local heroes that rent out their house at Airbnb.
And then he comes driving, parks and walks towards the post office. He starts speaking to Anders and Lasse, and already in sentence number two comes the words the boys didn’t even dare dream about hearing; “I have a shed, you can sleep there if you want too?” Within a blink of an eye, the boys says yes to Dave’s offer. They followed Dave’s instructions and came to a big garden with a house and a shed. In the shed it was climbing walls with around 25 mattresses for safety purposes, that meant it was plenty of space for two exhausted Norwegian boys.
The guys were invited in for wine and beers, given fresh towels and got to take a much needed shower. The three of them sat and talked about climbing, bicycling, Norway, Europe and Australia. Really nice! And then Dave and a friend drew a map for the guys next stage, talk about service.
Thank you, Dave, thank you!
An everyday hero is someone who offers something own, when he see others really need it. Amen.
