THE LITIGATORS
DAY 24
From Narbethong to “as far as possible” was today’s target. The target became even harder when the boys overslept a lot and didn’t get up before 09:30. The night wasn’t as cold as first feared, but some cows nearby were moooooing all night long. It was non stop from they arrived at 18:00 until 10:30 the day after. The boys had never heard anything like it, and Anders whom wears yellow noise canceling earplugs can still here the cows.
The beginning of todays leg was like a dream, even though it rained and was a bit cold it, it went slowly downhill and the first 44 k’s were done in 2 hours. They had a short stop in Alexandra where they ate 2 burgers. It continued mostly downhill with the exception of a few steep hills so the leg wouldn’t be to comfortable. The only facilities Anders and Lasse had access to last night was a couple of public toilets, so they didn’t even bother to take of the tricot. They put the wool long John’s outside the sweat tricot. The two primarily reasons for this were that they were afraid of freezing and afraid of snakes. Therefore as little organizing as possible outside the tent.
The last 15 k’s of today’s leg was done on a bicycle road. Quite impressive that this road is built and connects two so small places as Merton and Bonnie Doon is. A great cycling road in a beautiful landscape, completely safe from traffic. A road to enjoy.
Anders and Lasse arrived in Bonnie Doon in a caravan park nearby the lake. This caravan park looks like it is very popular during the high season of summer. When the boys check in the lady behind the register says that the men’s room is being fixed so they have to use the ladies room. She continues by saying that a group of schoolgirls are staying there that weekend and wonders if it is okay for the boys to share toilet and showers with them. “Hmmm, shouldn’t that question be asked to the girls and not to us” Anders thinks. The girls are around 15 so here it is all about looking down if you are to meet them at the unisex toilet/showers.
It is Friday but no thank god it’s Friday feeling. After the three days of rest in Melbourne it feels like Tuesday. This weekend nothing exciting happens, they are just cycling. Todays distance ended on 93 k’s, good enough for the boys.
To try to kill some time that probably would be spent on his iPhone in the tent, Anders have bought two books. “The Litigators” by John Grisham can Anders after only 21 pages recommend. Maybe a fool book review will come later.
