DAY 49

Only a technical movement from Ballina to Byron Bay on the program today. That was 38 km in a quiet speed. They had all the time in the world and stops to look at some people paraglyding in the air. They look down at the Lennox Head beach that continues for a long way. Plenty of surfers and people bathing.

When they arrive in Byron Bay the recognize everything immediately. The streets, the restaurants, the bars, the shops and the hostels. The place is legendary for partying and the boys were here 5 years ago doing exactly that. Many histories and not all of them will be told. Some of the stories have been washed away by the waves that continuously hits the beach.

Tomorrow is Lasse’s big day with skydiving. He has to hold his match weight lower than 95 kg for 24 more hours, but the still the boys decides to eat kebab as their first meal in Byron Bay. They eat at AbraKebabra in the main street, same place they ate 5 years ago. An amazing kebab not comparable to what you get in Norway.

They have checked in at a caravan park that is huge compared to what they have previously slept on. The tents are close and the hippie vibe is way above both Anders and Lasse comfort level. No shadows so it will get very hot with no places to hide. The caravan park is 2 km from the city center so they put their stuff in the tent and escapes to the city center and lay down at the beach. They are wearing sunglasses so nobody sees where they see.

The Tuesday started with horrible news from Ankara and Berlin. The news channels covered it of course with several extra new in the morning, and Anders got the news from a bench in a laundry with TV. Anders reminded himself what several people in Australia has told the boys so far. ” It is better to be in Australia than Europe these days”, with a obvious hint that Europe is in deep conflict, almost in war with something they don’t quite know how to deal with and handle. An invisible enemy within own boarders created by western politics and oppression, or maybe just insanely crazy people that put some sort of messed up honor and pride in front of all the good.
