The Savior

Departure day. 2 hours before takeoff Anders and Lasse arrives at the airport, assisted by two helpers. Two enormous boxes containing bicycles and bike bags was ordered as special luggage, and the boys thought they were all set.

The first check-in desk went well. The second one didn’t. The women at the front desk for special luggage said you guys have 31 kg overweight. Anders and Lasse looks at each other and thinks “well, we’ll need this stuff so we just gotta pay”

After a little while the old lady says “85 dollars peer kg overweight”. The expression of Anders and Lasse said it all, they realize they are screwed.
So sad, so unnecessary. This trip was as well planned as it potentially could be, given the limitations the boys have for planning anything. The thoughts runs as fast as a high speed train in Japan, how are they gonna solve this and they got 90 minutes before takeoff.

With a small feeling of resignation, they return to Anders mom and dad, who are watching the last suitcase. Anders says “it will cost over 3000 dollars to send that suitcase”. The parents looks over at Lasse for confirmation as they couldn’t quite believe it. Lasse immediately says “it is true”.

Anders dad says ” I’ll pay, that’s what parents are for” , but Anders says with a strict tone, “no, you are not”.

Suddenly a familiar face appears, a face they know very well. This guy listens to the frustration and whining from the boys, before he walks a round in the departure area. After a little while this boy comes back, with a smurk on his face, which only means one thing “guys I got this”.

It was a huge relieve and 240 kg of the boys shoulders, as it meant they didn’t have to use most of their travel budget. It was a solution, but they guys had to prioritize and some equipment, clothes and energy bars was left behind. The rest was taken care of. The boys are leaving Norway with a absolute minimum of luggage, but the guy who fixed this will always be treated like a true hero.

They boys got on the plane and are flying Oslo-London-Singapore-Adelaide. They have not yet realized what they actually are doing or what journey they have begun.

*Also, a huge shoutout to Anders’ mom and dad for repacking three times in two hours so the sweat ran. An admirable and epic encounter, that will be written in the history books for eternity. Barely has it been a higher work rate and entertainment in the departure hall at Gardermoen*
